Letter to an Unknown Soldier is creating a digital memorial for WWI by asking people to submit letters to the unknown soldier at Paddington Station.

Deadline is August 4.

In a year jammed-full of WW1 commemoration our project invites everyone to step back from the public ceremonies and take a few private moments to think.

If you were able to send a personal message to this soldier, a man who served and was killed during World War One, what would you write?

The response to this project has been extraordinary. Over 10,000 people have sent letters so far – and all sorts of people: schoolchildren, authors (including Stephen Fry, Malorie Blackman, and Andrew Motion), nurses, serving members of the forces and even the Prime Minister. If you write to the soldier, your letter will be published alongside theirs.

The website will remain open until 11 p.m. on the night of 4 August 2014.

Between now and then every letter that the soldier receives will be published and made available for everyone to read.  Eventually all of the letters will be archived in the British Library where they will remain permanently accessible online.

Your letter will help us create a new kind of war memorial – one made entirely of words, and by everyone.

Find out more information, read published letters, or visit our tumblr page for inspiration.

Dare to become a fanwork!

Promptaholics is putting on its first challenge ever, and we want you to participate.

How it works: Once you enter the challenge, you will be tasked with making some kind of fanwork (e.g. fanfiction, graphic, fanmix) that incorporates another participant’s username in some way. Another participant will be doing the same for you!

How to join: We’d love for you to reblog this post (maybe with your fandoms/ships tagged!) so we can spread the word, and also follow us, but in order to enter you must send Promptaholics a message with:

  1. The username you want to be incorporated into a fanwork (if you have more than 1 Tumblr)
  2. Five or more fandoms you like
  3. Favorite ships
  4. Ships you can’t stand

Deadline to enter your username into the competition is: July 28.

We will give you your assigned username by August 1.

Fanworks are due by September 1.

Please make sure you’re seriously interested in doing this before sending in your info! We want to make sure everyone who participates gets a fanwork, meaning everyone needs to make one.

Also, if it pleases ya, be sure to follow us! We have tons of prompts, writing advice, and future prompt-a-thons!

I think this is such a fun idea!! I can’t decide which username I should submit, yeahwrite[rs] or ohheyitslivia. Hmmmmm!

6SHAME, prompt, irony, submission,

I feel as though I am willing to give really honest feedback, and telling the author what he or she did right and what would be the best for him or her to improve on. I am not necessarily good with grammar, or editing but plot, writing styles, and ideas I excel at.    I actually plan on going into college to be a secondary school English teacher, I am 17 years-old currently, and have been a writer for a very long time. I am willing to do fanfictions, mostly anime, and other fictional stories, such as romance, fairy tail, super natural or science fiction.

Hello all, I’m Sarah. I’m going into my last year as an undergrad finishing up my Lit./Creative Writing degree with a Latin minor. I’ve had a lot of workshopping and critiquing experience in different genres, though fiction is my specialty. I am an editor for my college’s newspaper and I’m going to be the Editor in Chief of it’s literary journal next spring. I have submitted to that journal and I’m going to be published on two online journals this summer.

I will workshop fiction of all sizes (novel to drabbles) and if anyone has any questions concerning Latin I will be happy to check your grammar (don’t trust Google translate, please! One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing Latin misused in literature).

Hello, tumblr folk.

It’s that time again: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS.

With issue two of the bi-monthly literary journal, (parenthetical) in the designing phase, we need some content to fill out the hand-bound pages. And that’s where we turn to you.

In our first issue, several of our contributors came from the tumblr community and many writers found us through our first call for submissions on tumblr.

So, please, submit your poetry, fiction (up to 2,500 words), and literary-leaning non-fiction (also up to 2,500 words) to us.

The deadline is Friday, June 27th at midnight.

Check out what (parenthetical) is all about here, and then head on over to the submit page here.

Do it guys!

My name is Taylor and starting this fall, I will be an honors English major with a possible minor in creative writing. I’ve dabbled quite a bit in writing, but only for my own pleasure — nothing published. However, I’ve been told that I’m a superb editor/proofreader and I’m eager to help potential authors realize the full potential of their stories.

My favorite genres are magical realism, superhero stories, urban fantasy, and LGBTQA fiction. Symbolism, flow (how words sound), pacing, dialogue, and characterization are topics that I can definitely help you with; unfortunately, grammar is not my strong suit. I’m open to any and all formats of fiction (even non-fiction if that’s your area), as well as exceptionally long or short word counts. If you have a completed work you’d like to have checked or there’s an unruly draft that you’ve been struggling with, come ask me for help!

Hi, my name is Ryan.  I have always loved writing, even in elementary school when I would spend my recess with two friends working on one project or another.  In high school I was a featured poet in the school’s literary magazine and runner up for “Best Poem” award.  I write a lot of poetry, almost all of it uses strong religious images/themes (I am not Christian, but have no problem with any religion, theistic or non).  I also do short stories, but have never finished anything longer than seven pages.  Despite my shortcoming I will gladly read works of any length.  As for genre, I’m down with anything except romance.  I’m cool with darker stuff, so if you’re having trouble finding someone to read such a piece, send it my way.  I pay particular attention to world-building and word choice.  Words are extremely important and I always make sure I am using the right one.  I can also help with: dialogue, ironing out inconsistencies, characterization, and fleshing out plot. I also meet every other week with a group of 4 or 5 friends to critique each other’s work and would be fine with sharing your piece if requested (and it is a reasonable length).  I look forward to reading your work and helping it improve!

My name is Charles Dowdy and I’d be interested in reading a few things. I’m a broadcaster and writer living in Louisiana. My interests are all over the place. I love anything that makes me laugh, anything sappy sad or romantic, history, thrillers, and something with a trek as long as the characters are well developed. I hate copy-editing my own stuff, I’d simply like to read a few things and provide my initial reaction to story.

I can be reached at http://charleswdowdy.tumblr.com/ through the ask button at the bottom of the page.
